Worker engagement, participation and representation
(HSWA) Reinforces the need for employers to work with their employees to ensure health and safety in the workplace.
This includes taking steps to:
ensure workers are engaged in deciding what health and safety issues to tackle in the workplace
give workers reasonable opportunities to participate in improving health and safety
encourage representation by supporting the election of a health and safety representative (as a high-risk industry, forestry businesses must do this if a worker volunteers for the role), and
set up a Health and Safety Committee if a health and safety representative, a group of workers or the business believes it will improve workplace health and safety.
Like much of HSWA, good forestry operators are doing these things already. See this two-page document for more information.
